2012-2013 Overview
We offer options that allow our players to play as little or as much lacrosse as they desire. New for this year, our players may be selected to join our elite “Blue Chip” teams, join our supplemental travel teams, fall skills program, and spring bantam program (age permitting).
Sentry Select Teams:
Each Player will tryout for the Select “A” team within his/her grade level. (ie: Every 6th grader tries out for the 6th grade Select “A” team regardless of age) Once a player makes the team, he is then a part of the 6th grade Select “A” team for the 2012-2013 Winter and Summer season.
This team will practice in the Winter and play in local tournaments. They will take a break during the spring season so that everyone can play with their school team. The same Sentry team will begin practice again in early May and will play in local tournaments and travel to 1 destination tournament in June. The season ends with the conclusion of the travel tournament.
Blue Chip Teams: (NEW)
After a player has made the Selcet “A” team within their grade (explained above) They are then eligible to be selected for the age based “Blue Chip” teams. The Blue Chip teams are selected based on age; U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 (grade is irrelevant for these teams). After Sentry tryouts in September, players will be hand selected for an additional “Blue Chip” tryout. The Blue chip teams will practice 1 day per week, play in 1 local tournament and travel to 1 destination tournament.
If a player is selected for both the Sentry “A” team and “Blue Chip” team, they will have a total of 3 days of practice per week and 2 travel tournaments during the summer. Practices and tournaments will NOT conflict!
Fall Skills:
Skill sessions will take place 1 day per week from September 17th - October 26th. These sessions are organized by grade and skill level and are designed to improve specific skills. Offensive players will focus on dodging, shooting, and small field concepts. Defensive players will focus on footwork, stick control, and checks. Goalies and face off specialist will work on technique and sharpen their skills. We will come together for team drills and concepts at the end of each session.
Sentry Bantam Spring team: (NEW)
The Sentry spring lacrosse teams are designed for players who are looking for more competitive lacrosse while still playing with their school team. Our Spring teams will practice 1 day per week and play games throughout the Spring season. This will not be the same team as your “Sentry year round” team. This is on a “sign up and selection” basis, however all players must be a part of the Sentry Select program. We will divide teams into 1st & 2nd grade, and 3rd & 4th grade teams. We encourage all players participate with their school team in their regular bantam league. Sentry Spring lacrosse will not conflict with regular bantam leagues.
Additional Travel Tournaments: (NEW)
During the Summer and Winter, we will offer additional tournaments that will be available on a sign up basis with priority going to the older players within the age group. The tournaments will be age based and will not conflict with Sentry Select teams or Blue Chip teams. These teams will have additional practices during the week leading up to the tournament.
