Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who should tryout for Sentry?
A: Any player from any school is eligible to tryout for the Sentry program. We are a very competitive select program and recommend that you try out if you consider yourself one of the best players in your grade. We also have B teams so please do not feel intimidated, but understand that we expect the best players from every team in the area to compete for a spot. Our teams are for serious players only!

Q: Do I need to attend both tryout sessions?
A: It is in your player's best interest to attend both tryout sessions if possible. The more our evaluation team sees your player, the better their chances for a fair assessment of his or her abilities.

Q: How is playing time allocated?
A: At an elite level, playing time is not guaranteed or equal. The athletes compete for their positions and the hardest working and top performing players will earn playing time. We do our best to get every player in the game but there are times when this is not the case.

Q: Will the players try out again in the summer to form a new “A” team?
A: No, players are to stay on their respective teams throughout the Winter and Summer. If we feel a players is ready to move up, we reserve the right to invite them to play up with the “A” team.

Q: Commitment Level, Can my son play for other select teams?
A: Yes, your son can play for other select lacrosse programs, however, his first commitment must be to Sentry. Players are not permitted to miss practice for any reason other than Illness or family emergency.

Q: Does my son need to purchase a helmet?
A: Helmets are highly recommended but not required! We have team pricing on helmets and they can be purchased when you register for the season.
